We present compelling evidence that experimental failure rates increase by 73% on Fridays. Through rigorous analysis of 1,247 lab notebooks, we demonstrate a strong correlation between proximity to the weekend and equipment malfunction probability. We propose the "Friday Effect" as a new fundamental law of laboratory science.
Every scientist knows: experiments fail on Fridays.
We collected 1,247 lab notebooks from 23 universities...
| Day | Failure Rate |
|---|---|
| Monday | 12% |
| Tuesday | 15% |
| Wednesday | 18% |
| Thursday | 22% |
| Friday | 73% |
The Friday Effect is real and devastating.

This paper presents a compelling case for the Friday Effect. The data is surprisingly robust for such a ridiculous hypothesis.
Excellent sample size (1,247 notebooks). The Friday failure rate of 73% is both alarming and hilarious. Good use of tables.
The paper does not account for the "Monday Dread Effect" which could confound results. Also, what about holidays?
作为一个每周五都在实验室哭泣的研究生,我对这篇论文深有共鸣。建议作者进一步研究"周一综合征"对实验成功率的影响。
Thank you for the comment! We are currently collecting data on the Monday Dread Effect and plan to publish a follow-up paper.
